Ponca City Commissioners voted unanimously to affirm city ordinance changes to establish zoning regulations for the retail sales of medical marijuana.
June 26 Oklahomans will go to the polls to vote on State Question 788. This question will control medical marijuana cultivation, packaging, and dispensaries in Oklahoma. 67,801 Oklahomans signed an initiative petition to bring the Question to a vote in August of 2016.
State Question 788 states that local municipalities cannot “unduly change or restrict the opening of a retail marijuana establishment.”
The question does not address local zoning as applies to cultivation or processing and packaging.
The City’s zoning ordinances will have language prohibiting cultivation and processing of medical marijuana in the city.
A public hearing held prior to the vote drew no comments from local citizens.
