In the state song for Oklahoma, it mentions how the winds come sweeping down the plains. That is a high possibility for Thursday as the National Weather Service in Norman has issued a High Wind Watch for Western Oklahoma. And the NWS offices in Wichita and Dodge City have issued High Wind Watches for Southern and Southwestern Kansas. While the warning does not include Kay County or any of its bordering counties, some of the counties in Oklahoma within the Northern half include Alfalfa, Harper, Major, Woods and Woodward Counties. Nearby counties in Kansas include Barber, Harper, Kingman, Pratt and Reno Counties. Wind gusts for Thursday are predicted to be anywhere between 55-60 mph at most. With high winds predicted, that can also increases the chance of fires occurring.
