The Otoe-Missouria Tribe will gather on Thursday, July 18 at their historic powwow grounds in Red Rock, Oklahoma for the 138th Annual Otoe-Missouria Summer Encampment July 18-21.

This four day powwow draws large crowds to the reservation 27 miles north of Stillwater. It’s the largest gathering of Otoe-Missouria tribal members and descendants and one that many people look forward to with anticipation.

The 2019 powwow will include the Mourners Dinner on Wednesday evening at the powwow arena. The Mourners Dinner is a meal to remember those who are in mourning and will not be participating in the powwow while they mourn for a year after losing a loved one.

Following the dinner will be hand games in the arena.

Thursday, Princess Kennetha Butler will be crowned at the arena. She will serve as a tribal ambassador for one year while she travels throughout the United States.

On Friday, a 2-mile walk/run to remember the relatives will begin at 8 a.m. at the 7 Clans Gasino in Red Rock.

Saturday, July 20, A Mud Run will start at 8 a.m. behind 7 Clans Paradise Casino in Red Rock. A Horseshoe Tournament will begin at 10 a.m. at the campgrounds. Kid’s games, elder games and turtle races are scheduled for 10 a.m. at the powwow arena.

Gourd Dancing will begin at 2 p.m. Friday through Sunday evening with Grand Entry each night at 7 p.m.
