Excessive Heat Warning For Northern Oklahoma Monday

PONCA CITY – The National Weather Service in Norman has placed Kay County under an Excessive Heat Warning from noon until 9 p.m. Monday, August 19.

Heat index values across the area could likely get up to 110 due to temperatures around 103, and dewpoints in the lower 70s. Other Oklahoma counties included in the Excessive Heat Warning are Grant, Garfield, Noble, Kingfisher, Logan, Payne, Canadian, Oklahoma, Lincoln, Cleveland, Pottawatomie, Seminole and Hughes.

The excessive heat can cause heat stress or heat strokes. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

Anyone that is overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded area. if a heat stroke occurs, call 911.
