KAW CITY -A Shidler man facing multiple felony charges in Kay and Osage counties in Oklahoma, and in the states of Texas and Kansas, was arrested Wednesday evening in Kaw City
At about 7:05 PM Wednesday evening, Kay County Undersheriff Sean Grigsba called the Ponca City Police Department and said they had wanted subject Zachary Warner Bethel, 36, located and he was refusing to cooperate when he was in a trailer in Kaw City.
Undersheriff Grigsba asked if the Ponca City Police Department Tactical Team could be deployed to their location, if they decided they needed them. That request was granted, and about 15 minutes later, Grigsba requested that the Tactical Team be sent to Kaw City. The team was activated and responded to Kaw City to assist the other area Law Enforcement personnel on scene. Bethel was talked into surrendering and the Tactical Team members helped take him into custody, and helped clear the trailer and make sure no other people were inside. The team was released shortly after at about 8:30 PM.
Bethel was charged in November 2013 and faces felonies of falsely impersonating another individual to create liability, possession of forged instruments, taking and/or receiving credit or debit card, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, forgery and conspiracy. Recent court records from June 2019 list that Bethel is also facing charges of operating a vehicle with no tag, defective equipment, operating a vehicle without a drivers license, failure to carry valid insurance verification, failure to keep right on road of sufficient width and driving under the influence of drugs.
Bethel entered a guilty plea in August 2014 where he was convicted and received 15 years in prison with all but five years suspended. Bethel later failed to appear in court leading to a bond of $25,000 being issued.
Bethel is now in the Kay County Jail.
