NEWKIRK – On Tuesday, Oct. 8, residents in Kay County vote on a 13-year 0.25% tax increase to help fund a new annex building to be placed on the Kay County Courthouse Lawn in Newkirk south of the courthouse building.
As of 9 p.m. Tuesday, unofficial results from Kay County report that there have been 1,400 yes votes and 854 no votes. The official number will not be known until 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11.
The proposed annex building is estimated 15,778 sq. ft. All county offices would be located to the new building, which allows more room for the courthouse. The Extension office will have its own 5,000 sq. ft. building. The project should also help improve parking.
